Audrey Faye Garcia, 87, passed away on December 6, 2023. She was born at home on February 17, 1936, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the fifth of Bob and Virga Trent’s thirteen children. Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains, she worked in the house, on the farm, and had a job through high school to help her family she loved so much. Even when she left home, she returned at least once a year to visit and during the year stayed in touch by sending cards and little gifts.
After leaving home, she met and fell in love with a handsome Airman, Arturo Garcia. They were devoted to each other for 51 years of marriage. Faye had a heart full of love for children, and she showered that love on her only child, Linda. When she married Art, she was immediately accepted into the Garcia extended family, even living with her in-laws for a time while Art was stationed overseas. She loved all of her in-laws and they loved her.
In 1971, Faye decided to get a part-time job just for something to do while Art was at work and Linda was at school. With her brains, work ethic, and her way with people, she was quickly made full-time, and promoted to supervisor. She went on to spend almost 30 years with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, ending her career as the manager of the world’s largest Air Force military clothing sales store. He won many excellence awards, but more importantly, was adored by her employees and made many good friends.
When Art passed away in 2004, she moved to Deer Park to live with her daughter, Linda, her son-in-law, Tommy, and her grandson, Trent, where she lived the rest of her life. They all shared so many happy times together. Even though we all felt the warmth of Faye’s constant love, once Trent was born there was no question who she loved the most. From taking care of him as a baby and toddler to attending every school event to making sure he had spending money when he was away at college, she was the captain of Team Trent until the very end. She cherished her friendship with Tommy’s mother, Tona Butler, and together they were the best grandma team – Mamaw and Nonnie – this world has ever known. Either with Trent at Chuck E. Cheese, or without him at Coushatta Casino, these ladies had fun together. Tommy’s entire family loved her and she loved them – especially the nieces and nephews that called her “Granny Faye.”
Faye loved the Lord with the same quiet constancy she loved all of his people. Faye loved to can, especially making jellies, jams, pickles, and beets. She loved to shop at Kohl’s and find things on sale. She loved her dogs, Lady and Ranger, and the new puppy she called “Little Bit.” She loved to hang out with her cousin, Shirley, and friend, Rose, in all kinds of adventures. She loved to watch movies with Linda and Tommy in the evening. She loved Tommy like a son and he took excellent care of her from helping her grieve “Artie” by taking her to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night to physically caring for her and lifting her near the end. She loved and worried about her siblings, talking to Pat, Bennie, Linda, and Junior as often as she could. She will be missed beyond belief and takes with her our love and admiration for a life well-lived.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Garcia Butler, her son-in-law, Tom Butler, her beloved grandson, Trent Butler, her siblings, Robert Trent, Jr., Patricia Posen, Bennett Trent (Sherri), and Linda Brown, her sister-in-law, Margaret Trent, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo Garcia; her parents, Bob and Virga Trent; her sisters, Maxine Adams (Bert), Lorene Lee (Jack), Pauline Webb (Junior), Fairy Mae Duncan (James), and Barbara Brown (Ralph); her brothers, Charles Trent, Hager Trent, and Ken Trent.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in the Chapel of Deer Park Funeral Directors, 336 E. San Augustine, Deer Park, TX 77536. Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Funeral Home. Interment will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
