CL "Chicken" Williams Jr. Obituary

CL “Chicken” Williams Jr passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of 87.  Born in Santa Ana, Texas, he grew up on the family farm in Talpa, Tx.  He went to grade school in Galena Park, Tx. and later built a life with his beloved wife and family in Deer Park, Texas before retiring together in New Braunfels, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Margaret Rose Williams, his parent CL and Ora Lee Williams, and his sisters Kewpie, Faye, Winona, and Virginia. He is survived by his four children: Russell Williams, Marcie Hefner, Laura Grossett, and Chance Williams along with his grandchildren, Angela Stokes, Joshua Williams, Matthew Williams, Melody Moore, John Williams, Samantha Williams, Ashley Ashley, Joseph “JJ” Best, Jeremy Best, Rachel Best, Megan Priess, and Sarah Williams, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Chicken earned his lifelong nickname at the age of eight when he refused a kiss from a girl – a story that would follow him proudly for life.  Dad was always smiling and whistling his signature tune, Chicken had a joyful spirit that could light up any room.  He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went.  In fact, one of his best friends was named “Goose!”

Chicken worked for the Galana Park Gas Company, later acquired by Enron, and retired from Shell Oil Refinery in Deer Park.  Music was at the heart of Chicken’s life.  He sang in the choir at Lakewood Church under Pastor John Osteen, led worship in a small New Braunfels Church, and performed bass in a barbershop quartet.  Later, at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, he was cherished for his heartfelt rendition of Amazing Grace and his remarkable ability to remember every choir member’s name, making each one feel seen and valued.

Chicken lived his life with laughter, faith, and song – a man whose spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held at:
