Carlton Elwin McCrory

Carlton "PopMack" McCrory born February 25, 1939 Ville Platte, La, passed July 20, 2026.

Carlton was married to Myrna Elizabeth one month shy of 65 years. He was daddy to Sherrie Renee, Dawn Elizabeth, Darren Elwin and Vicki Lee. He was PopMack to Nathan Noel, Amy Rae, Phillip Paul, Lauren Nicole, Jake Ryan, Zoe Ashton, Emilee Marie and Tanner Michael. To his great grandkids, Hadley Thomas, Bella Rae, Beau Louis, Harlow Taylor and Brady Michael, he was PopMack 2. PopMack was cherished not only by family and friends, but also by the many past and present girl athletes Coach Dawn Lamby inspired and coached.

Carlton or Mac to some, had a love for flowers and gardening. His front and backyard were immaculate. He loved growing muscadines, figs and vegetables. He always could grow a big something out of a little nothing. He took great pride in making his yard look the best he could and he succeeded. He had the best-looking yard on the block. He was high energy and loved to stay busy. He loved drag racing cars and had the scars to prove it! He loved keeping his vehicles clean and sparkling. It was a running joke, that his fender wells and engine were so clean, you could eat off of them. #IYKYK. 

PopMack loved sports, whether it is was professional or college. LSU sports were his favorite to watch. He was definitely a stats guy, when asked, he wouldn't mind sharing and even when NOT asked he didn't mind sharing. #IYKYK

Growing up having to learn how to fix things on his own, he became a master of all handy man jobs. He loved cooking and cooking for others, bacon and eggs were always requested. Gumbo was his favorite thing to whip up, and the tradition continues. 

He started his working career throwing newspapers and wasn't shy to show you how to fold and throw to get them right on the front porch by the front door.  He then went to work for T. G. & Y., where he started as a stock boy making .50 an hour.  He retired at the position of District Manager. He took pride in his stores and how they looked for every season. One of his stores was close to a prison and he made sure he had the essentials for the guys when they were released. T. G. & Y. was very good to him!!  He was loved and admired by so many.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Deer Park's 1st Baptist Church 438 E. 8th Street Deer Park, Tx Saturday August 8, 2026, visitation will be at 10:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am. Please wear your best LSU gear and or LSU colors!  Geaux Tigers!!
