Charles Louis Kielman, Jr., lovingly known as “Sonny” or Charlie, of Angleton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Charlie was born on June 25, 1944, in Wharton, Texas, to Charles and Flora Kielman. He made Angleton his home for more than 50 years, where he built a life rooted in family, faith, and service to others.
A graduate of Wharton High School, Charlie was a multi-sport athlete who played football and baseball and carried his love of sports with him throughout his life. He attended Wharton County Junior College before earning a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree from the Texas A&M University System. His passion for athletics and mentoring young people led him to a successful career as a high school coach and science teacher. Later, he transitioned into school administration, eventually retiring as a high school vocational counselor. His career in education was spent serving the Wharton, Edna, Sabinal, Goliad, Angleton, and Sweeny ISD communities. Charlie was especially proud of his work to establish partnerships between small schools and local junior colleges, opening doors and opportunities for countless students.
On February 7, 1970, Charlie married Karen Keevert, the love of his life. Together they shared 55 wonderful years, raising their daughters, serving their church and school communities, watching Rice University baseball games, traveling with family and friends, and enjoying their four grandchildren. Charlie had a true servant’s heart and found his greatest joy in helping others succeed, always encouraging and supporting with his wit and compassion.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Kielman; his daughters, Tracey Hill and her husband Jarrett of Deer Park, Texas, and Kim Blackburn and her husband Micky of Rhome, Texas; his four beloved grandchildren, Madelyn Schneider and her husband Cody, Mallory Hill, Ava Blackburn, and Jett Blackburn; several cousins and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Flora Kielman.
A memorial service will be held at The Bridge (formerly known as First United Methodist Church); 219 N. Arcola Street, Angleton, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service for family will follow at Wharton Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to The Bridge or the Angleton ISD History Center.
