Eileen Pace Cordray aka Precious Granny, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 17, 2025 and is now rejoicing with Jesus. As Alzheimer's started its claim on her she wanted those she loved and those who cared for her to know how much she loved them and appreciated the kindness they showed to her.
Eileen was born in Houston, the second child, and only daughter, to Ida Elizabeth Floyd Pace and James B. Pace Sr. on February 13, 1945. Eileen was a flute playing 1963 graduate of South Houston High School. She married Mike Sprouse in 1964, and they had two kids, Dean and Karen. She was a real estate broker in Deer Park in the 1970’s and 1980’s co-owning ERA Elite Realty with Lena Malone. 1983 was a big year for Eileen, she married Darryl Cordray, gaining 3 bonus kids, Shelley, Neal, and Chad. It was also the year they started their business U-Cart Concrete nka Bay Area Rentals in Pasadena. She had been a member of the Deer Park Rotary Club and participated in the Chamber of Commerce in Deer Park and Pasadena. She had a love of sailing, could be found clowning around in local parades in the 1990’s, and joyfully served many years singing in the church choir at First United Methodist Church on Fairmont in Pasadena.
Eileen is survived by her husband and sweetheart, Darryl Cordray of 42 years, her brothers James B. Pace Jr. and wife Vickie, John B. Pace and wife Karen, brother-in-law, Edwin Cordray, her son, Dean Sprouse and wife Ginger, daughter Karen Sinclair-Sprouse and wife Leslie, daughter Shelley Cordray Penaloza and husband Daniel, son Neal Cordray and wife Melissa, and son Chad Cordray. Her precious grandchildren, that filled her heart with pride and joy, include Tatum Sprouse Snoga and husband Blaine, Anthony Penaloza and wife Maddie, Colby Cordray and wife Kassidy, Jordan Penaloza, Kaylea Cordray, Siblings Jacob and Brittney McCalla, and Brittany Garrison and great grandson, Salem. In addition to that, there are many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, and many others who considered her a mom figure.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Ida Elizabeth Gibson, stepfather George Gibson, and her father James Benjamin Pace Sr, father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Loveern Cordray, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dennis Cordray and Frankie Mae Cordray.
The family will remember her uncompromising love, positive attitude, and love of family gatherings and pets.
