James Steininger Obituary

James “Jim” Steininger passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Memorial Hermann Southeast after a short but courageous battle with stage four lung cancer. He was surrounded by the constant love and support of his family.

Jim was born on July 15, 1950, in Wellsville, New York, to Ed and Rose Steininger. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to Pasadena, Texas, where he was raised and would spend much of his life before relocating to Deer Park in 2000. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1968, where he played both baseball and football, and briefly attended San Jacinto Junior College.

Throughout his life, Jim worked in the automotive industry, including many years at his family’s car business and later with Durrett Motor Co. In 1998, at the age of 48, he began a new chapter with the United States Postal Service, serving as both a carrier and clerk at the Deer Park facility. He dedicated 17 years to the Postal Service before retiring in 2015.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jim enjoyed playing recreational slow-pitch softball. He was an avid fan of many sports, always cheering on his favorite teams and attending games whenever he could. His love of athletics and competition stayed with him throughout his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rose Steininger, and his sisters, Carol Howe and Marsha Ford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda; daughters Lisa Browning (husband Chris) and Julie Johnson (husband J.P.); and his cherished grandsons Grant and Ian Browning, and Dylan and Blake Johnson. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Steininger, and sisters Deanna Rombach, Mary Stoecker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was a devoted husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his daughters and grandsons and rarely missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events whenever he was able.

Memorial and service details will be announced at a later date.
