Kathy Sue Wood

Kathy Sue Wood, 76, Passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Houston, Texas. She was born to parents, Sarah Sue Wood (Westmorland) and Herman Clyde Wood on September 2, 1947 in Asheville, North Carolina.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving sister Debra Faith McDonald; the children she helped raise: nephew Joseph McDonald, his wife Megan, and their daughters Lily and Cassidy; nephew Jeff McDonald and niece Caitlin Hope (McDonald) Roberson, her husband Thomas, son Stephen Wesley Mandrell and step-daughter Kennedy Obert and Chase Horsfall; and niece Melissa Killeya. Kathy's cousins, Marcy Bayless and her husband David; Wesley Mayo; and Albert Mayo and his wife Jo Ann enriched her seventy-six years with family holidays, outings and gatherings for lunch.

Her nieces and nephews were Kathy's bridge into the McDonald family: sister-in-law, Kelli McDonald and her husband Whit Scott; bother-in-law, Scott McDonald and his wife, Carla and brother-in-law Steve McDonald and his wife Barbara. Kathy counted Brian McDonald and wife Rachel, Emily McDonald, and Wyatt McDonald as her extended family.

Kathy's most blessed legacy will be the Mockingbird Club, a gathering of young talent and aspirations first populated by Joe, Jeff, and Caitie then followed by Cassidy Munley, Kennedy Obert, Lily McDonald, and Stephen Mandrell.

Kathy counted a host of friends from her employment with the Pasadena Police Department while a secretary in the Juvenile Division until her retirement in 1996.  A longtime member of Pasadena's First Baptist Church she gave voice to the Joy Singers and over 13 "Christmas Trees", taught 3rd Grade Sunday School and graced the church's Stephen's Ministry.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Sue (Westmoreland) Wood, Herman Clyde Wood and infant sister Cassandra Hope Wood. 

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 5:00 PM, held in the Chapel at First Baptist Church, 7500 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, with a funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM.
