Margie Johnston Murray

Margie “Mema” Johnston Murray, age 86 of Deer Park, Texas, passed away on June 21, 2023 while surrounded by her family. She was born on June 23, 1936 in Emery, South Dakota to Mr. and Mrs. Francis W. Johnston. 

Margie met her first husband, Dallas R Dahl, in August of 1952.  They had two sons, Dennis Dahl and Doug Dahl.  Margie was widowed in 1958.

Margie then met and married the love of her life, Daniel Willard Murray on November, 13 1959. The couple married in South Dakota and then later moved to Deer Park, TX where they raised her two sons and their four children: Penny Murray, Daniel W. Murray Jr, Donald Murray, and Candee Rowe. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Margie loved family get-togethers especially on birthdays and holidays; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company as it was an expression of love from her. Some of her well known recipes included her fried chicken and favorite desserts like chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and angel food cake dessert.  In her working years, her house was filled with the kids she watched, who became her extended family. All of her grandchildren, and kids she watched, called her “Mema”.  Margie loved the Astros/Texans and watching game shows. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. 

Margie was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas R Dahl and Daniel Murray; sisters Rosie and Patty; grandson, Daniel “Booner” Murray III; great-grandson, Clayton Carney. She is survived by her sister, Bernice Daniels, 6 children, 9 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June, 27 at 6:00 PM  the chapel of Deer Park Funeral Directors, 336 E. San Augustine in Deer Park, Texas 77536.
