Obituary
Marion Renee Griffith Smith (Renee), 74, a longtime resident of Deer Park, Texas passed away on June 29, 2023 in Pasadena, TX while surrounded by family.
Renee was born in Pineland, TX on May 20, 1949 to Griff Griffith and Era Sims Griffith. She moved to Jasper, Texas where she attended elementary, junior high and graduated from Jasper High School. After high school she attended Chenier Business College in Beaumont, Texas. Upon graduation she went to work at The Visador Company in Jaspe. She met her husband Clayton Poindexter Smith, Jr. (Dexter) at the Jasper skating rink in 1968 and they married June 21,1969. Renee moved to Deer Park in 1969 for Dexter’s work and to begin their family. Renee was a full-time mother to her 3 children, Michael, Sandy and Clay. Renee loved taking care of her children, babysitting, reading and most of all becoming a Mimi to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Renee is survived by her children: Michael Smith of Angleton, TX, Sandy Smith Pearson (Rodney) of Deer Park, TX, Clay Smith (Stacie) of Pasadena, TX; Sisters: Denise Griffith of Jasper, TX, Terry Smith Maffitt (Mike) of Olive Branch, MS; Grandchildren: Ronnie Pearson, Jocelynn Smith, Austin Fairchild, Corey Pearson, Kelsea Fairchild, Hailey Smith, Clayton Smith and Brooklynn Pearson. Great Grandchildren: Aspen Fairchild, Payton Pearson, Rylee Smith and Kamry Fairchild; Multiple nieces and nephews.
Renee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Clayton Poindexter Smith, Jr., parents Griff Griffith and Era Sims Griffith, her sister Jacqueline Griffith Lene and her grandmothers Florence Sims and Laura Jane Griffith.
There will be a Celebration of Renee’s Life at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Deer Park Funeral Directors, 336 E. San Augustine, Deer Park, TX 77536. She will be laid to rest at Hancock Cemetery in Jasper, Texas alongside her husband and family members.
