Marvin " Dave " Burnett Jr. Obituary

Marvin “Dave” Davis Burnett Jr., 77, of Houston, Texas, born December 20, 1948, passed away on January 1, 2026.

Dave’s greatest pride was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Ruth Burnett, and a proud father to his daughters Abi Smith and Frankie Schipper. He loved his sons-in-law, Michael Smith and Stephen Schipper, as his own, and cherished his relationship with Jerry Smiley, who was like a son to him. He was a loving grandfather to Brooke Smith, Chase Smith, Brennan Schipper, Davis (his namesake) Schipper, and Justen Schipper, whose lives he touched with his wisdom and love. Dave also adored his dogs, April May and Summer, who were never far from his side.

Dave was a skilled boat mechanic with a lifelong love for the water that profoundly shaped his life. An avid fisherman, he felt a deep connection to God while at sea. In addition to fishing, Dave spent many years boat and car racing, earning numerous trophies and making lifelong friends. His dedication to these sports reflected his competitive spirit, love for the water and the excitement highly tuned motors.

As a true patriot, he was always proud to fly the American flag high, honoring his country with a deep sense of duty and respect. Dave's service in the United States Navy mirrored his passion for the ocean and his patriotism. His Navy service earned him high accolades for his dedication and bravery. Dave demonstrated the same commitment in all he did—whether in his career, hobbies, or love for family. Throughout his life and into retirement, he found joy in fishing, hunting, golfing, and taking great pride in the meticulous care of his home and treasures.

Dave leaves behind a legacy of building—both with his hands and in the lives he touched. He valued character, morals, and independence, always eager to teach others how to do things the right way. His wisdom, determination, and love will continue to guide his family for years to come. A service celebrating his life will be held in the Spring.
