It is with heavy hearts that we share that Rebecca Hinds gained her angel wings on February 15, 2025 at the age of 24. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of so many. She is survived by her loving parents, Alaine and Greg; siblings, Luke and Sarah (Thomas); cat, Merlin; and a wide circle of friends who adored her.
Rebecca never let her differences hold her back from having an adventurous life! Though she had significant hearing and vision challenges, as well as a motor impairment, she embraced life with enthusiasm. Her wheelchair was always decked out to embrace any season, holiday, or special event.
Rebecca was heavily involved in her community. She volunteered with the Salvation Army ringing the bell during the holiday season. She also advocated and testified on behalf of those with special needs in Austin. She was a Special Olympics and Challenger athlete in swimming and baseball and she loved competing on horseback at the Top Hands Horse Show.
Rebecca received many accolades over the course of her life. She was the recipient of the 2021 Great Motivator Award from the Deaf-Blind Multi-Handicapped Association of Texas (DBMAT) and was recently crowned a 2024 Miss Texas Royalty Queen with the Dash Gordon Foundation. Her story of resilience will continue to provide inspiration on the Texas Children’s Hospital NICU Wall of Hope.
Rebecca was most in her element when jamming to music or dancing with friends. She was especially known for her skills on the maracas! We know that if she were here with us, she would be encouraging everyone to find joy in music and shake their maracas.
Rebecca taught us all invaluable lessons about love, perseverance, and the power of a joyful spirit. We are forever grateful to have known and loved her.
We welcome all who were touched by Rebecca’s love and laughter to celebrate her life on Friday February 21 at Deer Park Funeral Directors, located at 336 E. San Augustine Blvd., Deer Park, Texas 77536. A public viewing will begin at 4:00 PM, followed by a service at 6:00 PM.
