Richard Rusnak went to rest in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday July 23rd, 2024. His love of life lives on through his legacy as a beloved father, husband, brother, friend, grandfather, and great grandfather. It continues through the faith and kindness and smiles and laughter that he bestowed on his family and friends and all who met him. And because of this, his love lives on through you and me.
Richard’s love of adventure began as a child growing up on his parent’s farm with his sisters, Diana and MaryAnn, brother Jim, and the memories of their precious baby brother Bobby. He and his lifetime best friend, Paul Hankins spent countless hours exploring, hunting, fishing, and planning their trip down the Mississippi on a homemade raft.
After attending a one-room schoolhouse, he made his way to Arkansas State College where he earned a degree in Math. Richard met the love of his life, Sherry Jane Gibson soon after college. They married and over the years welcomed 2 daughters, Sandi and Becky. The early 60’s brought Richard to Aschaffenburg, Germany as an Army Lieutenant and Artillery Forward Observer. While in the Military, he made lifelong friendships and had many, many stories to share over the years. After returning to the United States, Richard ultimately began his life-long career as a computer scientist for the NASA Space Program.
After his beloved wife went to be with Jesus in 2004, God blessed Richard with another great love, Molly Scott, who shared in his joy of life with a faithful and unwavering love and devotion.
Many things brought Richard joy…playing golf with friends, obtaining his small pilots license, watching the Blue Angels, and reading all 100+ Louis L'Amour westerns. His greatest joy was being with his family, “going and doing” with his girls, golf with his son-in-law Steve, and watching his grandsons and great grandsons Curt, Brian, Noah, Lukas and Grayson grow up.
Richard sang in the church choir for many years, and the times he sang Ave Maria will always be a special memory.
Richard is survived by his beloved Molly Scott of Deer Park, TX; Daughters Sandi Darden (Steve) of Marshall, TX, and Becky Rusnak of Seattle, WA; Sister, Diana Loyd of Chattanooga, TN; Grandsons Curt Darden (Daniela) of Marshall, TX., Brian Darden of Austin, TX. and Noah Michl of Seattle, WA; Great-grandsons Lukas and Grayson Darden of Marshall, TX, Nieces and Nephew Katie, Lindsey, and Jason.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park, TX at 10:00 am, preceded by a Rosary at 9:45 am.
