Robert Banker Obituary

Robert David Banker, age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born on January 10, 1945, in Wharton, Texas, to Pauline Annette Sawyer and William Henry Banker. He was born with a congenital heart defect but defied difficult odds and lived a long life. The second born of four children, David was preceded in death by brother William Earl Banker and sister Pauline Annette Miller (Everitt) and survived by sister Patricia Banker Houstoun (Rock). He is also survived by sister-in-law Jenny Banker; nephews Bryan Banker (Kim), John Kyle Banker, Brett Miller (Megan), and Will Houstoun (Jennifer); nieces Sarah Miller Eixmann (Brad), Katherine Houstoun Schutt (Marshall), Polly Miller Weist (Thad), Martha Anne Houstoun, and Sallie Banker Houstoun; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

David grew up in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, with a degree in Sociology. He worked for various government agencies in Wharton, New Mexico and finally with the Social Security Administration in Kerrville, Texas where he enjoyed living for many years. His last years were spent in Houston and more recently in Sugar Land, Texas. David enjoyed collecting antique silver and glass, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Brandy Duckworth for her dedication and care of David for the past six years.

The family will gather in April in Wharton for a celebration of David’s life and a private interment at Evergreen Memorial Park. The date and time will be announced later.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be directed to the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.
