Sara Storms Obituary

Sara (Sally) Storms, beloved sister, aunt, friend, and mother to multiple furry children, passed away after a short battle with cancer on January 30, 2025, surrounded by her family.  She was 86.

Sally was born on November 4, 1938, to parents Marie Elizabeth Webb and Louis Wilson Storms, Jr., at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas.  Due to her father’s role as a petroleum engineer following WW II, the family moved frequently during Sally’s childhood.  From Washington, D.C., to Caracas, Venezuela, Sally was exposed to different cities and cultures from a young age.

Upon the family’s return to Houston, Sally graduated from Kinkaid High School where she made lifelong friends.  Ever the strong and independent woman, Sally went on to study at the University of Texas, making new friends as a member of Delta Gamma sorority.

With a degree in Biology, Sally began her career in 1960, working in the lab at Baylor College of Medicine, before moving to M.D. Anderson, then the Houston Health Department, where she became the supervisor of Serology.  Her last role was a managerial position in the Harris County Sherriff’s department medical unit at the downtown Houston jail, before retiring in 2006.

Retirement didn’t slow her down. Sally filled her days with volunteering, friends, family, fun, and animal rescue. Taking her love of animals to new heights, Sally took courses on nursing injured wildlife and applied those skills as a volunteer for the Texas Wildlife Rehab Center (TWRC) for many years.  Her home was always full of animals and she took great care of neighborhood strays.

Sally patronized the arts and was a season ticket holder to multiple Houston area artistic organizations.  She loved to read, was excellent at crosswords, and showed her love of cooking by organizing a gourmet cooking club with friends.

An avid traveler, Sally visited Europe, enjoyed road trips around the US and Canada, and eventually found her happy place in Pensacola, Florida, which she would visit often in her later years.  Italy and Spain were known as her favorite European destinations, and she never forgot watching the 1969 moon walk in the lobby of a Madrid hotel.

Ever the hostess, Sally held an annual picnic at her parents’ property in Navasota for her friends and family until it was sold.  She knew how to throw a party, and everyone looked forward to picnics at “the farm”.

Sally was the social glue that held many of her friendships together. Continuing those relationships until her passing, she loved organizing gatherings with her large family of lifelong friends from the city lab, and small get-togethers with her closest friends and neighbors.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother, John, and sister-in-law, Pam.  She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Louis, sister-in-law Charlene, her best friend Cindy Kilborn, her many nieces and nephews, and their children.  Her warmth, big heart, welcoming nature, and generous spirit will be missed by everyone.

The family wishes to thank the teams at Elite Hospice and Staci J Caregivers for the compassionate care they showed Sally in her final days.

In honor of her wishes, the family will be holding a private service only.
