Thomas Richard Groft (79) went home to be with his heavenly father on June 9, 2025. Tom was born in Clinton, Indiana on September 21, 1945; the son of Elias Thomas “Pie” Groft and Hazel Tandy Loy Groft. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife-Judith Ann Leslein Groft, and third wife-Ana Maria Diaz Groft.
Sergeant Tom, a proud Marine and Vietnam Veteran, served his country from 1965-1970 and was honorably discharged from reserves in 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post 521 and enjoyed his time there. Tom had a servant’s heart giving of his time, knowledge, and resources whenever he saw a need. He loved building and construction projects--both large and small; when he was not on a job he enjoyed traveling around the country and collecting coins. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend who loved spending time playing games (card, board and electronic) as well as watching movies and old TV shows.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nina M Bain Groft; sister, Dianna Ruth Groft Magee; children Anita R. Pounders (John) Kelly A. Hoffman (Jason), Daniel T. Groft (Nettie), and Jonathan E. Groft (Lydia); grandchildren, John III, Nicholas (Alexandria), Seth, Blake (Kayla), Elaine, Kristopher, Alexandria, Adrian, Samantha, Brenda, Jonathan Jr, Anabella, and Isabella; great grandchildren EJ, Eli, and Niko.
We will be having a service for Tom at New Day Church; address is 2812 Pansy St. Pasadena, Texas 77503 on Saturday June 28, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM.
