William Mansel Obituary

William Henry (Bill) Mansel, age 92, of Deer Park, TX, passed away August 23, 2024.    Bill was born in Cedar Bayou, TX on November 29, 1931, to Janie Aline Mansel and Clyde Mansel.

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 and was a medic in an airlift medical evacuation unit in the Korean War.  He spent three years in the Army and seventeen years in the U.S. Air Force.  He retired from the military after serving twenty years.

He then was employed by Diamond-Shamrock/Occidental Petroleum for twenty-five years. He began as a medic but then studied for and became an instrument technician until his retirement after twenty-five years of employment.

Bill was very proud of being a Mason in the Deer Park Masonic Lodge for fifty years and was also proud of his military service.  He loved his country so very much.  He also enjoyed his time employed at Oxy and had many friends there.

Bill married Janice Garvey in 1962. They had two children, Julie Kathleen and Douglas Keith.  Bill was caregiver for Janice until she passed away due to a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He then married Jean Chambers, widow of an old army buddy, in 2011.  Bill and Jean enjoyed thirteen wonderful years together traveling, cruising, and just enjoying each other's company.  He was a wonderfully outgoing person with a great sense of humor and always had a new story or joke to tell. He will be missed by so many.

Bill was predeceased by his mother, his daughter, and several half brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife Jean; Son, Douglas; Sister, Rose Marie Brown (Bruce); brother, Bob Brinkley (Barbara); Grandsons, Stephen Clary (Mikala); Christopher Clary; Joseph Pieratt; Great-grandchildren: Seth Clary; Kade Clary; Kelci Clary; step-daughter; Donna Nichols; step-sons, Brent Caroline (Kimberly); Stefhan Chambers; six step grand-children and five step-great-grandchildren.

Bill elected to be cremated and will be interred in the Houston Veterans Cemetery.  At Bill's request there will be no funeral service. Plans will be made later for a celebration of his life.
