Christopher Michael Kocurek, 44 retired his post on this earth and went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, February 17th 2019. His wife and loved ones were at his side. It is fitting that he passed on a Sunday, his favorite day.
Chris was born November 9th,1974 to his parents, John & Tu Ye Kocurek. He is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, April, son Zachary, daughter Zoe, parents John and Tu Ye, brother Jonathan, grandmother Lorane Kocurek and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and family members.
Chris was known for his infectious smile, passion and drive. He was an overachiever and good at all things that he put his mind to. After graduating from La Porte High School, Chris served honorably as a United States Marine from 1993-1997. In years since, he had been an avid fishermen and hunter. As a softball player, his teams won several tournaments. As a coach for his son’s select baseball team, he helped drive the team to several championships and even a World Series win. When Chris wasn’t on the water or involved in sports, he was rooting for his Houston Astros, Texans and Rockets.
His passion and drive took on new levels when he turned his energy to following Jesus Christ. His stated mission was to get his family to heaven. A firm supporter of life, Chris was active in his church community. He served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, directed a Men’s ACTS retreat in 2018 and participated in multiple other ministries at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Chris was a true fisher of men, with his family taking precedents in all that he did.
Chris battled appendiceal cancer for the last three years of his life. He fought through two major surgeries, countless rounds of chemo and participated in a medical trial. Never the one to let anything get the best of him, he offered his suffering to Jesus. His faith was challenged and then perfected in these tribulations. His last words were, “Don’t be sad; Rejoice!”.
Chris is preceded in death by his unborn son Zayden, grandfather Wallace Kocurek, grandfather Sung Ye Pak, and grandmother Keum Lim Pak. May they all rest in the perpetual light of our Lord until we meet them again.
